SOURCE - CSA - GRINDELWALD, SUI (March 3, 2011) ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú Canada?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Chris Del Bosco added another podium to his growing collection on Thursday when he finished third at the ski cross World Cup stop at Grindelwald, Switzerland. Del Bosco, of Sudbury, Ont., was hoping to follow up the gold medal he won at last month's world championships with another victory but he got tangled up with the USA?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s John Teller in the men?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s final and had to settle for third on the long, wide open course. ?¢‚Ǩ?ìIt?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s just kind of the way it goes,?¢‚Ǩ¬ù said Del Bosco. ?¢‚Ǩ?ìThe first three heats were really good but the start in the final wasn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t my best. ?¢‚Ǩ?ìThe draft was pretty big here and we got pulled in weird spots. I was staying a little out of the draft but John got pulled and I landed (after a jump) with one of my skis between his legs. I managed to stay up but lost speed.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù Canada?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s men dominated qualification Wednesday with five skiers finishing in the top 10. But all five Canadians were bunched together in the bottom half of the draw and only Del Bosco made it through to the final. Whistler?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Davey Barr, who finished seventh overall, was eliminated at the semi-final stage in a heat won by Del Bosco. Dave Duncan, of Golden, B.C., and Toronto?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Nik Zoricic went out in the quarter-finals and finished ninth and 11th, respectively. Brian Bennett, of Quesnel, B.C., who was second fastest in qualification, was 17th. ?¢‚Ǩ?ìIt was good to see the depth of the men?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s team coming back,?¢‚Ǩ¬ù said Eric Archer, Canada?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s head coach, who added that as the snow became softer the bottom of the course became ripe for drafting and passing. ?¢‚Ǩ?ìEveryone except Brian moved into the quarter-finals. Zoricic was out front in his heat but he was kind of a sitting duck.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù Thursday?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s men?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s final was won by overall World Cup leader Andreas Matt, of Austria, with Finland?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Jouni Pellinen taking second place. ?¢‚Ǩ?ìI think everybody would have liked to do a little better but it?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s tough,?¢‚Ǩ¬ù said Del Bosco of the Canadians having to battle against each other in the same part of the draw. ?¢‚Ǩ?ìWe are all skiing well so hopefully it will be the same thing in qualifying on Saturday and we will be spread out in the finals.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù On the women?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s side, world champion Kelsey Serwa, of Kelowna, B.C., and Calgary?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Danielle Poleschuk were eliminated in the first heats of the day. Serwa, who had been hoping to make up ground on overall World Cup leader Heidi Zacher, of Germany, also fell victim to drafting lower down the course in her quarter-final. She finished 10th overall, with Poleschuk placing 11th. ?¢‚Ǩ?ìThe girl was able to sit in her draft,?¢‚Ǩ¬ù said Archer of Serwa?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s heat, in which the X Games champion was third behind Germany?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Anna Woerner and Austria?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Katrin Ofner. ?¢‚Ǩ?ìThere?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s not much you can do about that.?¢‚Ǩ¬ù Norway?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Marte Hoeie Gjefsen, the fastest qualifier on Wednesday, took the women?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s final ahead of French veteran Ophelie David and Zacher. The result means Zacher extended her lead in the World Cup standings and now has 472 points, ahead of Serwa (400) and Switzerland?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Fanny Smith (385).

SOURCE - USSA - MEIRINGEN-HASLIBERG, Switzerland (Mar. 6) ?¢‚Ǩ‚Äú X Games champion John Teller (Mammoth Lakes, CA) raced to fifth Sunday at Meiringen-Hasliberg, Switzerland. The result moved Teller into fourth in the FIS World Cup skicross standings. Finland?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s Jouni Pellinen topped the men?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s podium with Anna Holmlund of Sweden the women?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s winner. Teller, who has been working all season to improve his qualifying runs, ran 10th Saturday to qualify for Sunday?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s finals. The top eight in qualifying get priority in lane choice during the finals, an important advantage. In both the first heat and quarterfinals, Teller was second in his group, advancing him to the semifinals. For the semifinals, he got out of the gate third, but wasn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t able to find the opening he needed to move into second and make his way into the championship round. Making the small final, Teller got out of the gate and found himself at the back of the pack. With a deft move over the first gap hit, he jumped two spots to get into second. Biding his time over the remaining course, Teller found his opportunity to take the lead in the final stretch crossing the line first to win the small final and finish fifth on the day. "It was a good race, a lot of passing," said Teller of his small finals performance. Unfortunately for Teller, Pellinen?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢s win today makes his bid for finishing the skicross season in the top three more difficult. Teller, who has moved to fourth in the skicross standings, trails Pellinen by 78 points with two events remaining. As the season nears its end, Teller is quick to recognize the roll of his teammates and their support. "The whole season, it has been really key to have such hard work from my teammates. It is really cool that the ASA [American Skicross Association] team is helping each other, because without them there is no way I would?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve done what I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢ve done this season," said Teller.
